
Jay Mazoomdaar is a noted independent journalist and a filmmaker whose focus is on conservation, wildlife and environment issues. His documentaries on Indian wildlife and conservation for Discovery, National Geographic, BBC and NDTV have won many accolades and awards. He also contributes to a few national and international publications including BBC Wildlife. Before becoming a filmmaker he was with NDTV as the Consultant Editor (Environment & Wildlife) and with Indian Express where he headed the nodal desk for years before concentrating on investigative stories. In January 2005, he broke the Sariska story that set him on tiger trail across the country. In the following months, he broke similar stories from Ranthambhore and Panna. He was the first to report the conservation crisis from nine tiger reserves, including the Naxalite corridor of Indravati (Chhattisgarh), Palamu (Jharkhand) and Valmiki (North Bihar). Taking note of these reports, the Prime Minister set up the Tiger Task Force – which led to the creation of the National Tiger Conservation Authority -- and the Supreme Court engaged the CBI to investigate the cases of tiger poaching.
