
Once a hunting reserve of the royal family of Rewa, Bandhavgarh was declared a national park in 1968. This is also the site where the famous white tigers of Rewa were discovered. Bandhavgarh National Park is very rich in forests and has the highest density of tigers in the world.
The terrain is broken, with rocky hill ranges, running roughly east west, interspersed with grassy swamps and forested valleys. Bandhavgarh has about 32 mammals, 250 birds and 72 butterflies providing an excellent outlet for tourists looking for adventure and wild life. Bandhavgarh's history goes back 2000 years in time and the earliest signs of habitation can be seen in the Caves excavated from the cliffs to the north of the fort. Brahmi inscription here date back to the 1st century BC.
