Energy Efficiency: They use solar energy for heating water. The use of terra-cotta tiles moderates the temperature and helps avoid the use of heater.
Social practices: Koshy's offers a complimentary visit to all our guest to the Mannan tribal colony to visit the tribal museum and interact with the tribes. They also try support the community financially by promoting the hand made products made by them.
The helpers for the homestay are local villagers and they also make sure most of the raw items are bought locally so that the local community benefits for our homestay. They are actively involved in Voluntourism practices. They organize teaching classes for tribal schools, awareness for tribal forest guides and agri- horti culture awareness to villagers.
Recycling: Koshy's try to avoid maximum plastic in their property. They have a wormicompost unit for waste food items and use the organic fertilizer for our garden. Koshys encourage their guests to use paper bags and follow eco tourism principles.
Wildlife: Since Periyar is known for the wildlife, the awareness for preserving is given maximum priority. Koshys are actively involved in the Clean – Green Kumily project, which involves awareness classes of cleanliness and planting of trees and flowering plants at the road sides.
Water conservation: Koshys avoid the use of bathtubs to avoid the wastage of water. They provide hot water shower using the solar heater.
