The name of the island is “Vettila Thuruthu” (Betel Island).
An exclusive small resort Green Lagoon Resort with only two Residences, a smaller Guest House, the Manager`s House, a Staff House, a spacious Kitchen Building, and a Museum has been set up on the island.
The 7 acres island in the Vembanad Lake (part of the Kerala backwaters just south of Cochin) are structured by canals and an interior lake, home to fish & prawns & turtles.
A variety of birds live here. The jungle of ten years ago was transformed into a beautiful garden with coconut palms, areca palms, several types of mangroves, mango and other fruit trees, many flowering bushes, and a vegetable garden.
Good development potential: more land is available on other near islands across the lake. On the island itself there would be enough space to set up 5 more Residences.
It is an exclusive place for a private person or for a Company which could use it as a destination for their executive managers and their clients.
Green Lagoon Resort is a luxury resort,  it has no official classification because of its small number of rooms.
